I actually hadn't intended to play this game so soon but because
Cafe Enchante was such a slow game I was itching for some action!
knowing that Y6 wasn't nearly as long as its predecessor also helped.
The game takes place after Yakuza 5 and we're also back to just having Kiryu as the protagonist!
honestly the real reason for going into this within 2 months of finishing Y5 was more or less
me wanting to move on and see Kiryu's tale to its conclusion while I still had investment.
Pro's
- Decent and well-paced story that doesn't overstay its welcome.
- Great cast of characters lot's of fun interactions during the main story.
- Both main and substories are voiced fully.
Con's
- Combat felt weird, no heat actions for downed enemies? Meh.
- Too many substories are locked behind this or that. Also no substory finder.
- There was not nearly enough Majima.
Story wise it had me hooked from the start, I was surprised by how much directly
followed up on five, the opening scene was a bit random though like who was baby?
but record scratch *Freeze frame* how did we get into this situation happened.
The pacing was pretty good this time, I had an easier time following the plot and
each chapter felt like I learned a new piece of the puzzle which felt really good.
It pretty much felt like a proper crime drama that followed up on Y5's crappy ending.😅
I know RGG studios just sort of keeps writing but they really do manage to build something
from what they already have, they've proven that multiple times through this series.
Forgot the jump break so uh I generally enjoyed this game, more rambles after the jump!
Seems Saejima is just married to a jail cell and are unseparable... good thing we
no longer play as him because I can't see myself do season 3 of prison break.
The rawest shit Majima has said all game and he didn't say much more than this. |
Other characters were just kinda there, there wasn't enough Majima nor Akiyama but I guess
certain characters have become the sub chara's now because you know who is leading.
I also pretty much had the same reaction as Kiryu upon seeing little asia like hold-up
but eh atleast now its no longer the clunky maze it used to be so its for the better.Akiyama even got his ass beat for no reason so... well actually that segment was hilarious.😂
Also there was a thancred/vergil clone in this game Yoongi han who was voiced by Nakamura
and I instantly recognized his voice. Also most villains in this game are just asking to be
beaten up I swear to god its not even funny, its very easy to guess you'll kick someones ass soon.
Like kind of predictable? but I still like it as there was still a little suspense to it.I didn't like Someya, he is ass the moment he appears with that smug face of his, I almost
thought he was gonna redeem himself cuz he didn't seem too bad in the past only
for them to immediately ruin it by making him out to be some shitlord.😨
Somehow Someya still managed to ultimately redeem himself and made me say ok
he's not bad but still he honestly felt like Mine(h) except worse for half of the game.
Also I recently found out Date's seiyuu is the same as Goofy in kingdom hearts... |
I guess because of what happened with his OG actor they just decided to write him out like Kaoru.
Shinada has disappeared into thin-air as well like he was just some random bloke all along
which unfortunatly is true. I miss you Shinada! please be well!!!
The character interactions were also pretty good, everything is pretty much
voiced now and we no longer go from unvoiced scene to voiced and repeat.
I liked the ending this time atleast but ch12+finale was pretty messy.
Also I liked how they tried to do another yakuza FOUR moment...
but it didn't really work in this game as it did in Y4 because now we had SIX.
Substories were pretty good, I liked the haruka fan and the return of that shooreh pippi cult, like seriously I was having Y0 warflashbacks and it all came together so it was peak writing.
Yea Kiryu didn't know about this because it was Majima who dealt with them last time. |
to say so myself! there was one about an idol as well who was inspired by Haruka-chan.
Even if she's no long an idol she still managed to reach people with that concert back then
and even still has some fans, albeit most probably moved on.
The one introducing live chat was funny too. There was one substory however that
I confused as mainstory because of how intense it was like wtf?! and then it says substory
and i'm still like wait what? that was a substory?!
There were also trouble missions which are like mini quests to take care of
some random npc on the fly. Sadly I only did like 20 substories during the
main story because it was really difficult to find them unless I used the legend cyricz's guide.
so I stopped when I hit 40 and getting the last two was a real struggle
as it was no longer fun to just find them while exploring.
I liked the side activity of being able to look for cats, you did have to get catfood
but it was really nice to find stray cats and send them to a better home which was
a cat cafe, speaking of I saw that place in one of the judgment games so I guess
it is canon that Kiryu ended up helping that fellow out, if only a little.
Get on here, we're going spearfishing!
the right gear because I couldn't beat the delicious octopus till I had
the kiwami speargun from the final bar talk substory saga which was
also enough to clear the final spearfishing substory.
Speaking of I quite liked it and that might be my favorite side activity
besides finding random cats in the streets! I do want to add that the bar talk stuff
at times went too fast for me and couldn't follow the conversations to the point
I had to use a guide to get the good choices. Some choices were hilarious
but sometimes it was impossible to tell which was the right choice too.
If you pick wrong you'll get roasted for not following the conversation and tbh I think
it would be better esp for slow people such as myself had they just use text boxes for this.
Other than that I ditched baseball stuff quickly and didn't bother with the clan creator, will I ever?
NGL I ignored clan BS in all games and Y6 was no different, seems Majima
was able to build his shit anyway without Kiryu lending a hand anyways.
I swear this guy has the same voice as Vauthry from FFXIV. |
Shut up Thancred-Vergil clone, you know what you did to him. |
in this game. Can't even use a heat action on a downed enemy wtf is this even yakuza?!💀
Here's my only combat screenshot because I didn't take much. |
The only thing I didn't like was the encounter rate during the first night in hiroshima when you
have to sooth the baby like damn I had to do it like 10 times and it actually got annoying but I guess
it showed how inexperienced Kiryu was and after that time it was nowhere near as intense.
The enemy encounter rate was pretty normal compared to the above and yakuza 3 or 5, you
can see where they are on the map way better too, still sometimes fighting is unavoidable.
The game also had a graphic overhaul and runs on a different engine compared to the
PS3-era games, it pretty much looks more in line with Y0, the kiwami's and judgment games.
but it did reply... |
Unfortunately the champion's district and some of the northern area where the newly
build kamurocho hills now stands wasn't accessible but on the flip side we get
onomichi in hiroshima which was quite a beautiful area to walk through.
The scenery was pretty great at times. |
Final thoughts?!
Nagumo is me during most of the game and Akiyama is me during the ch12+finale. |
it kinda turned into a trainwreck so at that point the fun kinda ended. This game probably
had one of the lamest final bosses in the series, usually i'd be all like aww yea
but this guy felt like a lame-ass pansy compared to real legends like Ryuji Goda or MINEh.
Then again grabkuza 4 wasn't much better than this.
I did like the ending this time but man... I felt like a lot of it could have been avoided
had someone not pulled a lever. Or maybe that would make it worse?
Other than that they've pretty much perfected the formula they've been using with
this game other yakuza games like 3 or 5 would have pacing issues or padding and others
like 1,2 or 4 would be cool story bro and over before you know it.
I do personally like 2 and 4 but yea more often than not (except 5) as with Y6 RGG studios
once again shows good stories don't need to be 40+ hours to get the point across.
I do not know why but the pacing of this game just synced with me?
the story was just easy to follow and even if I did some sub stories
I was still able to remember stuff that was hinted/foreshadowed
which was also what Y6 was good at. I guess for some it could be
too predictable but I liked the way they did it. The characters were all great
except mister final boss. I just had a good time with this game.
My only disappointment is having it revolve around little asia but don't bring in
Tanimura, I get the OG actor was involved in some shit but they have Masuda Toshiki
as new VA anyways, why they treating m'boi so dirty.😠Also feels lame to just write out
Shinada yet have an entire substory revolve around baseball, come on RGG this ain't it bruh.
So while they can just write out characters without killing them, I sadly found out one character
8.5/10
I'm not ready to jump into yakuza- err like a dragon 7 or ''TMWEHN'' so I will
be peacing out of the yakuza franchise for a while, i'm honestly in the mood
for more fantasy like games so back to rpg or otome game land it is.
I do think I am starting to turn into a yakuza addict though... haha
definitely didn't buy Y7 yet... YET. Oh NO MichiO its on sale for 10$.
