Honestly I wasn't sure if I should get this but it did catch my attention
and I liked the setting so why the hell not? its also been a while that the
otome game lineup in japan has been so stacked like I wasn't even finished
with UtaChro FD, and this game came out! Sadly it seems barely anyone got this game
but it also didn't seem like it was going to be a heavy hitter with a lot of hype for it either.
I had mostly a good time with Mononoke Chigiri so it wasn't a bad otome game at all.
Pro's
- Decent but simple story that's not overly complicated with lots of funny situation.
- Great heroine and romance was with most LI was satisfying.
- Gorgeous art from sprites and backgrounds to CG's.
- BGM fits the setting and some have really nice relaxing vibe.
Con's
- Pretty long; the length can be a bit of a double edged sword.
- Some sub characters or enemies have no sprite, it would have more impact if they did.
- Not one but two attractive unromanceable side characters.
I liked the OP, it had the right kind of tone for a game with this setting, really good jam.
The lyrics of the OP already kinda spoil what kind of story its gonna be.
The ED was okay, I didn't skip it this time unlike UtaChro FD
and the animations for it were absolute adorable and feel good.
Art was gorgeous, it was done by Melo, I didn't even recognize it at first
but it really is them. The backgrounds were nice to look at too.
Music was alright it suited the scenes well, it certainly wasn't the worst i've heard.
I loved some of the BGM like one of those was so relaxing it made me melt.
I'm more wondering where the hell did otomate pull some of these composers from
cuz they seem really randomly picked but it mostly worked out so it wasn't a bad idea.
The UI was clean and it was easy to read the text as well.
Heroine/Plot.
The heroine Fujita Yuma is an onmyoji and she took her role seriously even if she's just an
apprentice she is trying! Yuma had her own sprite in the corner, I really miss this in some games.
In terms of heroines she is definitely out there, if you like proactive heroines she'll not disappoint.
The story was pretty simple and she had the goal of sealing the bakeneko whom's seal
was weakening and she befriended a bunch of youkai to help her do just that.
Its not a plot-focused otome game but rather one that focuses on the journey
which is slightly different depending whom you go for, the solution to the problem
was never the same and routes were more or less character focused.
This game didn't suffer from copypasta but I can see it being kind of repetitive.
Needless to say I've found most if not all routes worth doing.
This was not a serious otome game at all since it was a rom-com.
There were times the story was hilarious, the heroine was sometimes wearing her clown
pants unintendedly in the beginning however the game did know when to be more serious.
There was a common route which sets the stage and introduces the setting and story
but it was quite long, I could see people drop the game because of it
so this might not be for people who prefer shorter or more serious otome's.
I did love the overall vibe and I wanted to learn more about everything. So it wasn't off
to a bad start. I did think it was bit slow at times and took its sweet time
but it ended up being surprisingly well written in a way that suit the setting A LOT.
I also liked how the perspective would switch to the LI or Hayate&Satoru.
If you really like japanese folklore and youkai, this game is an easy recommendation.
The system was mostly standard VN stuff and each love interest had only two endings
a good end and bad ending which can be heartbreaking, i'm glad they made
the endings count so its quality over quantity.
However there was was a minigame but you only have to press a few buttons in order.
This kind of interactive game play wasn't that complicated. At first I thought
it was too fast but its an easy to memorize pattern and by route 2 I had it down.
Also you don't have to do it perfectly, completing the minigame
is fine with 5/7 so you don't have to get all seven button presses correct.
You can retry via the backlog and save before it, imo it wasn't a bad minigame.
I actually expected this minigame to be used more but it wasn't used as much at all
which was a relief for people that don't like this sort of stuff.
Playtime might depend on your reading speed, I feel like my speed is normal
or slightly slower because I sometimes pause. If you're a fast reader
then this game could feel a bit shorter then I make it out to be.
This game took me a good two weeks to get through, I feel more satisfied with
Mononoke Chigiri than I did with Fuyuzono Sacrifice as well.
I didn't full focus on this game and took breaks, I think I could have finished it
sooner but there were times I wasn't ready to jump into the next route.
In terms of characters I didn't think I would like Akihito as much as I did
but I absolutely adored him by the end of his route! so that was a pleasant surprise.
I did Chiaki second but... I don't really like him. I got weird vibes and thought he was creepy
but I can't deny he was very much like a fox so it all checked out. He was just too much for me.💀
I generally liked Gaku but he was a bit stiff at times, you can see he means well
especially at the start of the route where he expressed some of his thoughts.
I think his route accomplished more with the setting and story overall.
Sakichi's route was downright hilarious and a true rom-com, I enjoyed it the most
and may have left the strongest impression on me cuz some stuff you don't see everyday.
I enjoyed Sousuke's route as well and I think it was one of the best routes in the game
next to Sakichi and Akihito, Due being locked its a good route to end the game with.
I do have some complaints but not a lot. Some side characters have portraits, there's
nothing for really minor characters or enemies which made the game lack in impact
especially with their being some fight scenes so you had to use your imagination.
Its hilarious how Hayate and Satoru's were really handsome like
if Mononoke Chigiri got a FD they will definitely have routes.
The bakaneko I didn't find very threatening except... near the end of a route
and overall the game can get a bit repetitive but the individual characterswere all great and the way the problem was solved each route was unique.
So I can't complain too much. I almost ran out of steam at the final route
but it managed to get its grip on me and I still progressed at a steady pace.
TL;DR
This game made me love the whole otome genre all over again.
Its had a decent enough plot but I thought it was more focused on SoL, interaction
with the LI which lead to all sorts of fun situations, sealing the bakeneko
was merely goal but I think the journey with the LI mattered more here.
There wasn't any extreme content which could be disappointing for some but games
like this can be nice in their own way, there's enough shit happening in the world.
It was quite long as well especially the first time through, had it been shorter
there would not nearly be enough time so I think the overall length is just right.
At its core it may be quite a simple story... but it was still enjoyable
like sometimes you just want something that's not too complicated
while chasing 2d men and Mononoke Chigiri really delivered with this.
I also really love animals and I liked how there were some cute scenes with the guys in
their youkai form, they kept it light and fun it reminded me of beastmaster & prince.
Overall pretty decent otome game that shined on building a connection with the LI!
it takes its time with everything and it took its own setting serious, it had a potentially
bittersweet setup that became really obvious near the end of some route
but this wasn't a tear jerker, I think you're more likely to cry tears of joy
from laughing over something stupid that just transpired.
8.5/10
I recommend it if you like more simple otome games focused on japanese folklore.
However if you prefer shorter otome games or don't like comedies, i'd probably
not recommend it since this is a rom-com of decent length.
I'm not sure how much chance this game will be brought over, but I don't see why not.
If aksys is gonna bring over lighthearted and comedic type of games now...
I see no reason they or others couldn't pick this up especially considering
this is like the lovechild of Beastmaster&Prince and Radiant Tale.
Its worth a look if you like stuff such as Cupid Parasite as well.
My Play order: Akihito > Chiaki > Gaku > Sakichi > Sousuke.
There was a lock on Sousuke's route so I did him last. None of the initial route
had any big spoilers except maybe Gaku they all hint a little at things
and my own play order flowed surprisingly well. There's apparently an official
order but I don't think it matters too much Akihito and Chiaki share a plot line
so doing one hints at the other. Same for Gaku and Sakichi. I think Sakichi
should be done before Sousuke though but that's my opinion.
Character rambles after the jump so if you don't want spoilers just stop reading here.
I share a few of my fav CG's as well but not all of them.
Akihito. (Tanuki)
CV: Amasaki Kouhei.
I went for this dumbass first who doesn't even know how to use money. Is this guy for real?
He's like I know what I'm doing! (No I'm not). He can be pretty insufferable at times.
Or more like he's a drama queen but also very cute so I can forgive him easily most of the time...
I guess that's how Tanuki's get you. Yuma got harrassed by a bunch of dudes
but Akihito showed up to show his disapproval going as far as saying she's his girl and they
already slept together. Which actually is kind of true even if it was in his animal form.😅
So after the bad guys stirred up some trouble one of them Hayate tries to join their side
but no one really trusts him so everyone watches them like a hawk. Yuma has to make
but no one really trusts him so everyone watches them like a hawk. Yuma has to make
a contract, it doesn't work with anyone but Akihito, Hayate tried to go
like hey why not me but he gets dismissed easily.
Akihito is a tanuki and apparently he's not supposed to trust humans, they're actually
not that strong of a youkai and in the past humans tried to use their powers hench
the reason he's not supposed to trust them. There was an exception in the past.
Akihito is also pretty lazy and a deep sleeper, he doesn't wake up easily once he's asleep.
Akihito is also pretty lazy and a deep sleeper, he doesn't wake up easily once he's asleep.
Akihito likes to boast about himself as if he's a big shot youkai and others are just like suuuure.😂
He also gently reminded Yuma to not call him cute or childish because
The route in general had a lot of moments that I like but for some reason my summary is short idk why.
I have to say I really liked that scene where they looked at the water and it showed
his true form, that of a youkai. It was a realization that they're both of different worlds
and near the end of the route there's another call back to it.
thinks seem fine but they were really angry at Akihito for doing this. Everyone is still butthurt
from when they were betrayed by humans so they find this unacceptable, a disgrace.
No one wants to hear what he has to say and Akihito realizes he may've fallen for her.
Not sure what to do he knows he doesn't want her to hate him. Akihito's mother
seems a bit more reasonable and helps them. That night they end up confessing their feelings
which was sweet, Akihito's dad ruins it and calls his son out for even more transgressions.
Akihito got hurt trying to protect her but he will still stand by his decision to stand by her
to face the bake-neko. He tries his hardest to convince the council but they're hard-headed.
Hayate and Satoru try to get him to switch to their side but Akihito won't do that.
They basically coerce him into joining their side or try to as the bake-neko could even make him
stronger and as he returns to Yuma he starts acting strange. Yuma gives him a hug
since that's the only thing she can do right now. Akihito couldn't get through to his dad
and he ran into those weirdoes. He apologizes for acting out and gets some air.
Yuma ends up talking to his dad instead and Akihito's mom helps her but its not much use.
Akihito knows the only way to maybe get through to them is by focusing their attention
to the bake-neko maybe if they can defeat it... it'll show what their contract was for.
They end up fighting it and our ghost kitten is no joke, due Akihito being weak
he had to hold it during the sealing process leading to a close call.
Akihito boasts about it being because of the power of love that he didn't get sealed with it.
They spend some time together after the battle, though he still has to talk to his family...
it sorta was shaping up to be a sad end but for some reason folks started to cheer
him on for having a lover, must be because of his mom. Yes.. yes it was her.
Akihito ends up showing her around his town for real now, he couldn't before.
Akihito decided that he wants to live as a human from now on
and decided to stay at the shrine too. Now that they're lovers he'd like for them
to share rooms but Sousuke rejects the idea immediately. Later they looked
at the water again in the gardens and this time it reflected Akihito as a human
Ah... its finally over but I feel so happy that they're happy.
In the epilogue Akihito ends up making a web page for the shrine
in the hopes of making it more popular and ends up as a tour guide.
Akihito's mom ended up visiting him but she hasn't told his dad so she has to keep it brief.
Later Akihito finds a photo album which contains pictures of Yuma and he gets all excited.
He gets a little jealous Sousuke has seen more than him but i'm sure he gets to see more right now.😉
In the bad ending: Akihito ends up on the side on the bakeneko, he asks that they let him
take care of her due to the contract. Bakeneko just agrees. He asks her not to run
and whispers he'll make sure no one can have her but him. So he steals her powers
since he doesn't want the bakeneko to do it. Only way to do that is to end the contract
which will make her unable to see youkai which her ability let her do in the first place.
Holy forkeroni, this has got to be one of the most well rounded VN's I have played recently.
Not only was the plot okay the romance was just right that it didn't feel like it was too little
they actually striked a balance and I am loving it. I also liked Akihito's character
despite him being a bit childish, i'm not able to dislike this dork. If Yuma called him
childish or cute he'd make her eat those words, the dynamic between them was pretty great.

~
Thankfully Choro's guide had me make a save near the end of the common route
so I could skip the majority of it but this only works for Akihito and Chiaki.
So i'll have to do it atleast one more time later, aaaaaaaaaaaa.
Chiaki was sealed in the forest decades ago cuz he had aggro from
an onmyoji at the time, he pretty much did as he pleased back then.
Years pass and Yuma who's wearing the clown pants unintentionally then unseals him.
Now he can finally continue his evil plans UwUb.
Hayate still chills out at the shrine being watched like a hawk. Much of the route
is spend building a connection with Chiaki so they can make a contract.
It was still interesting to learn more about Chiaki but he has his own thing going on
and was actually really SUS about it. I got a weird vibe from him.💀
Uh so apparently thanks to Yuma he's able to be perfectly recover from being sealed
and he's sort of after her as well since her ability is extra delicious to him. There was
apparently some girl he attempted to uh eat but it seems this is why he was sealed.💀💀💀
Also just like that he decided she will be his bride.... HEY NOW SLOW YOUR ROLL.
Even Gaku who interrupted their... dance is like wait a minute. 😂😂😂
Anyway he releases the girl thanks to Yuma intervening... but it was like a trade
since now Yuma ends up in a contract with him. Sousuke nearly lost it when
he heard what is going on between Yuma and Chiaki. He was not pleased.
After a dream Yuma realizes she doesn't really know Chiaki so she decides
to try to talk to him more... due to this the route calmed down a notch
but still Chiaki has no chill, he says Yuma herself hasn't realized her inner fox.
Was there even a fox or is my wonweek leaking out? he wants them to spend time together
everyday so she awakens to her powers. All I get from this is I don't trust him.
Also there's Hayate and Satoru trying to butt in and even in this route they tried to get
a youkai on their side, Tanuki and fox were their main targets so they're consistent atleast.
Akihito ends up being manipulated. Chiaki and Yuma decide to act on it before it gets
out of hand, Akihito gets burned by foxfire, Yuma tries to convince him to stop
so Chiaki gets a little jealous. Just like last time he has Yuma try to stop him and even trying
to make her choose which is more precious to her. Is it the Tanuki or him? either way
Akihito got away and there's no use chasing him but Yuma convinces him eventually
so they end up going to a youkai town but no one seems to have seen him.
They ask the twins for help and rest the night, he gives her a protective charm
but let's be real I bet he just wanted to give her a hickey.........
anyway things get serious as he asks Yuma if she regrets unsealing him
and for the sake of the best ends let's not have any.
When they sleep he says some stuff like how she's such a poor creature
unable to discern truth from falsehoods and taking things as it is
not that it matters as long as she becomes his it doesn't matter. 💀
Doesn't help that the next day they visit the hanamachi and he just naturally fits in.
Uh yea so this is the finding out part of how he fucks around with women.😔
Some rando harassed Yuma too and she has to cry for Chiaki's help or not depending on choice.
Anyway Chiaki tells the twerp not to touch her, sigh she can't even be apart from him 1 second.
Not that he is that heartless but I literally can't tell whether he's real or messing with Yuma.
Eventually the appointed hour arrives of the bake-neko requiring resealing.
They find Akihito and he apologizes but he wants them to save everyone
since he doesn't know what else will happen and regrets listening to Hayate.
They gotta take care of the bakeneko and everyone helps them by taking care of small fry.
Before they know it they're fighting the bakeneko near the place he got sealed... or is it?
he's deadly afraid his body will get destroyed, he starts thinking its Yuma
who destroyed his stone but she can't get through to him for some reason.
The bakeneko is playing tricks and the stone is actually fine or more like
he's experiencing the events of his past all over again of being sealed in that stone.
Yuma ends up saving his ass, yes your read that right... and they get back on track
with dealing with the cat. They seal it but it seems they torn its soul into pieces.
Was this some kind of Inuyasha reference? either way I don't look forward to it.
Trying to find them all could take many years. Oh great... well for what its worth
all is well that ends well? and he said it feels nice to trust someone like Yuma.
Hayate and Satoru are practically harmless now as their powers were takenthere's the matter of the fragments but its unlikely they'll ever be gathered.
Due to spending so much time together Chiaki realizes he may have fallen for Yuma for real
but honestly I think this guy is a hot mess. Yuma of course has fallen for this fox.
Chiaki shoves the contract aside and just wants to be with her normally...
maybe there is some hope left for this guy afterall. Chiaki also wants
to make himself useful at the shrine since he doesn't want to be a freeloader.
The drama continues in the epilogue as some woman came to visit Chiaki
as his dark past still haunts him but he refuses their offer since things are different now.
Yuma ends up watching him like a hawk just to be sure... LMAO.
They end up winning a lottery ticket for an onsen and Chiaki gets all excited cuz its his
first time going to one in the human world. When they finally get there he gets all
respectful and goes in with her in his fox form but then just changes back
when he realizes she wants to look at him. Oh my god aaaaaaaaaaaaaa~~.
Bad end: They ended up sealing the bakeneko but the foxfire keeps burning
Chiaki doesn't see the issue since they don't know if it can break free
so having the fox fire active is a sort of just in case.
Yuma is just sort of spacing out and he says he loves her... as a toy.
She just replies she loves him too... Chiaki has plans for world domination
for some reason so he's probably not doing too hot either.
Honestly while some things were hilarious this wasn't for me, Chiaki just gave all sort of
weird vibes and was generally creepy. It got to the point we have Akihito pointing out
how annoying he is and Sousuke wasn't pleased with that marriage nonsense either.
While I don't think it was that bad I just didn't enjoy it that much either.
It actually kind of hurt to do this route after Akihito too anyway i'll never look
at foxes the same way again, I don't think Chiaki was trash but he was almost there.💀
The bad end made me understand he's definitely for a certain audience.
I suppose he's a complex character and I am glad that he had his own POV
because that's what sort of saved the route as it showed his real thoughts.
Comparing this route to the others it honestly felt really weak and there was too much
random shit to add to the pile maybe its intended to do it first or something.

~
Gaku. (Wolf)
CV: Namikawa Daisuke.
We have to sit through the entire common route again but the guide also makes it so
you can do both Wolf&Crow at the same time much like Tanuki&fox so its not bad.
There were some extra scenes with Hayate and Satoru at times which revealed that...
they've actually just been looking for the cat's fragments like its the shikon jewel.😂😂😂
OMG then that means nothing really changed at the end of Chiaki's route. 💀
Upon selecting Gyaku... Sakichi immediately fiercely rejects it as he has
other duties apparently. Gaku doesn't seem to mind so its just Sakichi having a hissy fit.
This route had a more serious tone to it and basically if Yuma were to lose her powers
then she wouldn't be able to see Youkai anymore nor be able to do her job as onmyoji.
If she is fine with the risks then he'd be willing to let her form a contract with him.
Namidai's acting.... he really did make Gaku sound like he's mister serious business.
Sousuke says its okay for her to not rush and think about it carefully.
They ended up chasing Satoru into the woods but couldn't catch him.
Apparently he's fully aware humans and youkai live in different worlds
and he once met Yuma as a child and his impression of her hasn't changed.
Gaku finds her even more beautiful and courageous. Didn't expect him to flirt like that Geezus.
They figure out Hayate isn't to be trusted and that guy actually ran for the hills like Satoru did.
This route really expanded on Yuma and to some extend Sousuke's past
I can't believe the heroine was more brave than her brother.😂😂😂
They end up finding a diary which seems to belong to someone... they then
detect Hayate in the forest so they inform everyone but nothing happens.
Yuma showed the diary to Sousuke who says it could be from another
Onmyoji though he doesn't seem sure of it. Yuma ends up going over some stuff
and one evening runs into Gaku in the bath who apparently didn't hear the knock
on the door since eh was so absorbed in reading. Priceless. 😂
Gaku thought it was okay to use the bath while Sousuke wasn't breathing down
his neck but Yuma was super worried she couldn't find him much less like that.
Sousuke then came back too... wondering why Yuma was beet red. Sometime after
Yuma and Gaku take care of some problems in town as Satoru is stirring the pot.
Gaku suggested she'd go back but she says its better to stay together.
They support Sakichi who was getting his ass beat by Satoru when he tries to get
Yuma, Satoru got slammed with Icicles. They all return to the shrine afterwards
Gaku really doesn't want the bakeneko to get resurrected for some reason.
Later more flashbacks happen and it seems Yuma caused a lot of problems for Gaku
but he doesn't seem to mind. Little Yuma seemed to really like the wolf.
Gaku says she seems to get occasionally trapped in the past hench those visions
it might be due to the pact. Since when it happens she lost conciousness. Uh Haru ended up
falling into the pond so Hinata rushed over and Gaku got him out... Sakichi caw'd like a crow
and the kids apologized to their mother(him). Well that got rid of those tensions I guess.
Yuma ended up giving Gaku in his wolf form a bath... I guess he could have done it himself
but maybe Sousuke hates having all those hairs around or something.😅
The CG was super cute... he got her all wet when he naturally shed some of
the water off as dogs are won't to do. He admits he wants to be stronger
as he needs to be as he's the head of a clant. Sakichi made a big deal about how doing
the pact with Yuma might not be of his benefit but he still wants her to be at his side.
The romance felt a bit sad this route due Gaku knowing where the line is...
apparently Yuma looks like a woman he once liked and doesn't want her to go
through painful memories like getting trapped in the past which happened a lot this route.
Some stuff ends up happening and they had to knock out her grandpa since weird stuff happened
at the shrine. Yuma has grown enough she will be able to enter a contract with Gaku without problems. They end up chasing Hayate to the ends of the earth much to his dismay.
Sakichi ends up pecking Hayate so Yuma and Gaku can stop the bakeneko
but they end up visiting Gaku's place to rest, its full of books he really likes to read.
They continue to the youkai town some are not used to a human being there
everyone is shocked that a big shot like Gaku has a contract with her. Its here he gifts
Yuma a hairpin, that was adorable. He adds that he hopes she will remember something and that
he'd like to spend as long as he can with her but he knows the reality of the situation
all too well. Since they can't do anything right now they spend some more
time together which was really sweet and relaxing.
Unfortunately she ends up trapped into the past again which is some point right
before an event called new moon which is also coming up in the present.
It seems Gaku has had a similar relationship with a woman in the past,
Gaku starts to wonder what he really wants... so he wishes he could live
in the same world as her and refuses to give up on her.
Yuma tried to leave his home but the doors were locked he cites its because he doesn't want
to trouble her. Turns out he did it for her safety cuz an angry mob was waiting outside...
yes Yuma went and opened the door and they aren't nice. These guys treat her like an insect.
Yuma tries to reason with them but its no use, Gaku shows up giving angry looks.
They finally get some info on the bakeneko's henchmen Hayate and Satoru
and as they rest Gaku seems to notice something amiss. He tries to protect Yuma
but then he notices a shrine maiden, he seems to know her. Gaku figures this is
the bakeneko trying to mess with him. The woman doesn't seem to forgive him.
Seems that diary belonged to Gaku's ex and she is the one Gaku had a contract with in the past
but it didn't end well and he experiences a lot of guilt over it. The relationship with her
is quite similar to what he has with Yuma. However the ex grew old yet he remained.
Time passes and he met Yuma and her brother, he started to live a little from that moment again.
Unfortunately he isn't permitted to let this happen again by people he knows.
Yuma tells him not to blame himself for troubling her with his weaknessthat the bakeneko took advantage of, it seems he doesn't want to endanger her.
Though he needed some time alone, it seems he can't stay away for long...
even if he doesn't have the courage to talk much he hugged her which changes into a kiss
since its the only way he can expresses his feelings right now. OMG aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~~.
Yuma also admits she likes Gaku so the feeling is mutual. He's decided to live with her
despite what happened in the past. Hayate and Satoru are shown trying to rile people up
now that Gaku is having an illicit relationship with a human, saying now the time is right.
While we enjoy our time with Gaku his house almost gets set on fire by the people riled up.
Sakichi came as well to find out what the ruckus was about and he helps them escape, they decide
to return to the shrine, even the twins came to check on them since daddy crow wasn't home.
They help ensure the two of them make it back to the shrine... those kids are brave!
They finally face the cat who's cocky as always so he tries to trap them in the past and makes
it their future. Thankfully Yuma is sharp, unfortunately a fake Gaku in there makes her believe
When she does she effortlessly defeats the bakeneko--- and turned him into
a normal cat much to his dismay. 😂😂😂 Gaku takes her to meet with his clan
and he formally announces his new found resolve, that he's stepping down to live with Yuma.
He wants to work to strengthen relations between their people as well. They... seem to approve.
In the epilogue the two end up trying to write a story about the history of the shrine
but Gaku has not much experience with romance so Yuma gives him some pointers.
After a while he finishes writing his piece and he's nervous having it read by her.
OMG this is so adorable Aaaaaaaaaaaa~~ its basically similar to their story
but this was a present for her alone as their feelings are theirs alone.
Gaku also ends up proposing to Yuma and wants to get married.
Bad end: They weren't able to completely seal the bakeneko and Gaku ends
up being stuck in his wolf form, he won't be able to speak but he'll remain at her side.
Gonna admit that Gaku wasn't really on my radar in my initial playthrough
but when I did his route he quickly grew on me. Or more like did he was
the writers favorite since he was the most boyfriend out of all LI's so far.
Its like so obvious because of the flashbacks showing Yuma liked him ever since
but man I didn't expect him to be the way he was because of his past experience.
I didn't really like Gaku's wolf sprite at first but it really does suit his nature so it wasn't bad
though I will admit they could have tried to have one more variation of it.
The route was pretty good and I don't have any complaints atleast the problem
of the bakeneko is different everytime suited to the character of the route you're on
which kept things refreshing. Also Gaku is so mature even if its not his route
he acts like such a gentleman! I have nothing but respect for this man.
8.5/10
~
Sakichi. (Tengu)
CV:Kondo Takashi.
Upon being asked to form a contract he immediately rejects it
because he's like Gaku's right hand man there ain't no way he's doing this.
He's so freaking loud and caw's like a crow, I swear he's a tsundere or gay since
he openly admitted Gaku was the only one for him at the beginning of his route.
Uh so they were in the library and some book was about to fall so uh he ended up
Hinata thinks this is a wonderful sight... Sakichi turned into a stuttering mess
like it was an accident okay?! Way to start a route... but I am loving it.
Hinata is comparing it to a shoujo manga... her grandma told her all about it
it was a story about a girl and a youkai falling in love. Ahahaha.
They end up helping the kids find a book to read but Haru ends up picking a manga too.
Sakichi is pretty much the househusband and takes care of the twins and Gaku.
He's still against doing the contract but Haru ends up egging him on over that kiss previously
which turns Sakichi into an embarrassed mess. Its not even an hour into his route but I love it.
Sakichi starts to mellow out a little after the incident... and Yuma has been getting better
with her Shikigami's too. Didn't last long before he got into a fight with Sousuke
and Yuma is all like GUYS?! all because Sousuke suggested Gaku's a better candidate.
The moment Sakichi bragged about the kiss, Sousuke pulled Yuma behind him and got angry.
Sakichi ended up on his knees trying to appease him that he got the wrong idea.
This was so hilarious I'm deceased and its only the first chapter of his route.💀
Things return to normal and Yuma helps him out while cooking
the story kinda slowed down to a crawl due to SoL but I liked this calm
since it wasn't before long trouble started to brew. Eventually Sakichi
starts to think it might not be a bad thing to do the contract... hmm.
Then he dozed off and Yuma was like hey you okay Sakichi? get it together.😂😂😂
Satoru stirred up some trouble but its nothing Sakichi can't handle but he does
get mocked for refusing the contract. Yuma took care of the kids.
After this battle he decided it might be better to go along with it...
he laments the fact he might not be able to continue being Gaku's right hand
but Gaku doesn't mind at all, he does appreciate Sakichi's concern.
I like how Gaku tried to make it worse which lead to an even more embarrassed Sakichi
who's like no way am I kissing her for real, Sousuke is like then don't! not like
you have to kiss her hand shoujo manga style. I'm against it anyway.
Hinata is in fact for it and then Haru mentioned you already did it once why so embarrased?
Sakichi really is a clown but a really loveable one. He ends up following Hinata's advice
and tries to read a shoujo manga............ he actually is looking forward to the continuation.
Though he's willing to do the contract he tries to be certain this has no romantic intent...
Yuma is like okay but... I was like yea I'll hold you to that. 😏😏😏
She also dreamed they met in the past when she was separated from her brother
and he helped her find her way back. Hayate and Satoru end up making fun of Sakichi
after the former informs the other Yuma made a contract. No romantic intent eh with him
getting flustered so much its probably just that. Some stuff happened at the shrine
due to the bakeneko's seal weakening and Sakichi ends up being mind controlled.
Yuma tries to get some sense into him and ends up holding him back, literally.
Sakichi is sorta back kinda but he wallows in self pity cuz they got him good
so now they he doesn't see himself fit to beat Gaku's side or continue with the pact.
Yuma goes into the forest to drag him out but she can't convince him.😅
Gaku shows up but they decide to let him be for now and let him return on his own terms
and he does... which makes him pop the question that Yuma looks similar to a girl Gaku
had feelings for. This is why he's hesitant and thinks it should be Gaku who does the pact.
Sakichi basically has it all wrong and he gets all embarrassed when Gaku points out
that he likes Yuma. Gaku is so sweet that he doesn't think any of this is a problem and it isn't.
Gaku doesn't actually see Yuma and his crush as the same person anyways right now he's merely
watching over her but if things had been different he'd fall in love all over again
as we've seen in his own route so its not really inconsistent. Sakichi goes back
and tries to read the manga he tried to read in the beginning which basically
tells them what they think is right. Sakichi does want to be with Yuma...
cuz it may be lonely without her. Yuma sneaked up on him the next day as he resumes
his house husbando lifestyle. Sakichi is back to normal but still a flustered mess.
Sakichi ends up saying despite being against the contract he's serious now
and he apologizes for his rough behavior earlier. Then he confesses that he likes
Yuma, he'd like to marry her someday too. Yuma is like wait... but he also
needs to take responsibility for Gaku and the Shingetsu stuff. Sakichi doesn't even
expect a reply right away and she can think about it so she doesn't have any regrets.
Though it was already obvious to how much she's clinging to Sakichi that she likes him
but she realizes there are more important things to do right now so they'll touch up on it later.

Househusbando uses shojo manga's to solve his life problems; the route! |
Sumomo the squirrel drops some bombs that a youkai could be sealed
within a person too remember this as it is important later!
Sakichi got injured in the fight with the bakeneko due to covering her.
After the bakeneko and his two minions disappeared into the shadows biding their time
the twins come pick them up and Sakichi despite his bitching gets his wound treated.
He said it was just a scratch but it was a quite a deep wound...
the kids get hungry and Sakichi's about to enter househusband mode
but Yuma stops him and ends up taking care of dinner instead.
The CG looked odd at first but he apparently has really long finger gloves.
They end up visiting the youkai town and took a trip to a hotspring
which may have helped with Sakichi's recovery. I wasn't sure why Yuma
wore her yukata in the water while in Chiaki's route she wore a towel.
The scene was still super cute but here I was worried Yuma would have a stroke
but she probably did it to prevent Sakichi's mind from melting.
Later Sakichi buys a bridal kimono for Yuma, but seems she got lost
as she's late for their reunion. Sakichi kicks himself for it and tries to find her.
When they get back to the inn Haru tells them that the bakeneko appeared at the shrine
so she goes back. Sakichi comes as well but apparently only cuz Yuma is his master now
and he no longer listens to Gaku. If he gets to protect Yuma he doesn't care if he can no longer fly.
Gaku is like bring it... but they got other problems on their hands like the new moon
and a certain cat running amok. The twins seem to be fond of a certain cat
but they're being rebelious for some reason since Sakichi is no longer listening to Gaku
they find it strange that he would be succeeding him. The cat ends up mind controlling them.
The cat's minions end up kidnapping them, they leave them to Gaku while the two of them
chase after the BAKAneko. The cat tries to use its powers on Yuma so a reverse
of what happened a while back ends up happening. Yuma snaps out of it thanks to Sakichi.
The twins are fine too and they use their kodama to help fight the bakeneko.
The cat now has nowhere to run, Sakichi gifts Yuma the last of his wind
as she ends up sealing it once again... within herself. Sakichi is flabbergasted
like does this girl have any idea what she has done? but Yuma says its fine.
Apparently Sousuke was just lying around somewhere which is kinda SUS
considering his eyes being all cat-like... could it be that the cat was sealed inside him
but the seal was getting too weak? find out next route! all's well that ends well
but now Sakichi has to own up to what he said!😂 So who's gonna be a bigshot now huh?
Gaku respectfully leaves the leadership in Sakichi's hands. ORZ
Sometime later a bunch of youkai help Sakichi deliver their stuff.
The two of them go into the forest to prepare for their new life ahead.
In the epilogue the two of them enjoy some happy couple life and he finally shows
her the kimono he bought. She's overjoyed and made him once again stutter.
Things will become busy he has his new duties as well as their upcoming wedding
which they held at the shring, sumomo apparently formed a new pact with Sousuke
after her pact with Yuma ended. This ending really makes me happy.
Sakichi managed to troll Sousuke when he took a picture of their wedding as it
Bad ending: Things go wrong as expected and grandpa tries to seal the bakeneko
but its not a perfect seal. Yuma got injured so she has to rest a while. Sakichi seems to have
disappeared and one night during a full moon she goes to look for him in the forest
and they have a tender reunion however its not a perfect ending... the CG was still nice.
This route was so hilarious and adorable right off the bat. I'd honestly recommend
this whole game just for Sakichi because his route is a total gold mine.
Local tengu finds the answers in his life through a shojo manga.😂😂😂
Local tengu finds the answers in his life through a shojo manga.😂😂😂
I believe the writer and director had a vision for this route and it came out very well.
I didn't think the story was particularly strong but it wasn't bad, in fact very enjoyable!
I'm finding myself grinning a lot during this route and its absolute cinema right till the end.
Okay maybe I am a little biased? but really you don't see this stuff happening a lot.

Let's get this cat out of the bag! pun intended. |
mostly because of his eyes and he's never really around during the battle
but tends to show up after it as if nothing happened all dazed and such.
After Sakichi's route I pieced it together that it could be sealed inside him
but I wasn't fully sure what was really going on. In Sousuke's route Yuma doesn't choose
anyone to do a contract with and instead will try to figure out another way.
It actually gets straight to the point, he thinks its much like Chiaki's case
of how he was unsealed by simply misplacing a small thing so they decide to study up
to find new ways to seal him but apparently someones manga collection grew bigger
and they find a copy of that. Sousuke was quite respectful of Hiroko's collection.
I guess after last route the mangas will just haunt us forever.💀
Sousuke starts feeling a bit off though... but keeps insisting he's fine when Yuma asks.
I'm fine he says like 16 stacks of fine amirite?
They get a call from their mom who was also being a worry wart. Also despite him
being her brother they're not directly related and he doesn't want to trouble Yuma's family.
I already knew SUSke was a keeper and I wasn't even one hour into his route.
Hayate decides to be open about him knowing things about the bakeneko
and baits Yuma and SUSke into hearing him out for a bit. Sadly Sakichi ends up
being out for a day so they have to fix up dinner for themselves.
Yuma seemed interested in scoring points, the whole scene was so adorable i'm deceased.
If that wasn't bad enough she walked in on him after taking off his clothes.😂😂😂
Immediately he's like i'm glad it was just me but just remember there's four others.
Sometime later Suske has the realization he is the one who has put up walls around him
but there's no use thinking about that so he wonders instead about current matters.
UGH he's so... anyway Yuma tells him to rely more on her because they are family
and then Suske just pauses like... yea family. Stuff happens and they have to
take care of a bunch of youkai running amok. He gets knocked out but thankfully
Sakichi ran into them so they carry him back. When he wakes up he insists he's just fine
no need to take him to a hospital. Sakichi ends up being a dad so if he doesn't have a fever
he won't take him anywhere all because Suske keeps insisting he's fine.
Yuma ends up going in closer which makes him flustered, thankfully he didn't have a fever.
Suske kicks himself over it that he lost conciousness infront of her like that
and he really doesn't want to cause trouble for her and Shigetaka.
Akihito trolls Suske and says he's so easy to read that he could be a tsundere...
Suske response was so deadpan its like anyways what were we talking about.
Satoru tries to do a sneak attack but fails... Suske is actually afraid he's inept
and won't be able to protect Yuma. Sometime later Yuma suggests they go on a date.
Suske gets lead by Yuma as he grabbed his hand, then he calls her out for her behavior
in truth she just got a little excited but its because she's not very self aware.
When they're at a playground she sits on a spring and he holds her for a moment...
she's like wait wut? but then he says to forget what he's about to say.
Turns out he was super relieved that she didn't pick any for the contract
and instead try to find another way. He wanted to protect her
but he has been feeling inadequate recently to the point that maybe
she should choose someone for a contract. Finally he opens up about his feelings!
what a relief, Yuma sets his fears aside despite him wanting to forget his ramblings.
Suske starts to realize he feels different but he'll save it for another time.
Time passes and he ends up passing out somewhere again with gaps in his memories.
Suske goes back to bed and he dreams of how grandpa took him in.
Yuma instantly took a liking to him, despite her parents not being around
she was way more cheerful than him. When he met her parents he understood.
She was very loved by her parents and never sad when they weren't around
compared to Suske not even knowing where his parents are. Apparently there
were people that knew his parents and they came to visit him. They showed
him a picture of his parents and he figured he was loved him to some extend
but they couldn't be around so he waited till there's news of them as they're missing.
From then on he became Yuma's adopted brother and tried to
fit in with the rest of the folk at the shrine. Things slowdown for a bit
as they try to come up with ways to deal with the cat.
Sumomo reads some text about Seimei as to what happened in the past
seems like there was some sort of disagreement and one person Douma went missing.
Speaking of Suske ended up spacing out again and Yuma was worried about him.
He does apologize but he did go to a hospital but they couldn't do anything
so he just kind of spaced out in the park and didn't respond to texts....... they both
go home together. He says he'll try again tomorrow and Yuma will go with him.
I do not know why this scene made me so sad but Suske really
has this lost kitten energy and its getting to me.😭
They end up releasing some shikigami and it ends up being Douma's they waited
for this a long time. They're grateful to be set free and will thank them once day.
Later that night shit goes wrong and a toxic mist envelops the shrine.
Yuma tries to find Suske but it seems he's not in his room...
Some people get taken to the hospital and things return to normal
Yuma is told to get rest as Gaku and Sakichi will stand watch.
Suske seems fine but he has holes in his memory again
he's shocked to hear what happened while he was out.
Sousuke starts blaming himself that this is because he unsealed a bunch of youkai
but Gaku immediately counters like the responsible adult he is that this is not the case.
At night Suske disappeared and Sumomo warns Yuma of a presence
and they find Seimei trying to attack Sousuke. Sumomo tries to stop Seimei.
Seimei tries to get the squirrell to calm down but she tries to tell him what a hardworker Suske is.
Sumomo ends up knocked out by a summoned samurai youkai. Seimei tries to convince
Yuma but she has seen enough. Seimei tried to kill his own familiar. Yuma will
protect her brother so she summons her own samurai youkai.
Suske starts acting weird and tries to tell Yuma to seal him as he moved closer to the well.
They all hold an emergency meeting because things really went to shit. I almost thought
Chiaki went missing but he's in a good mood today to join the cat hunt.
Whatever happens Gaku ensures they're her allies and they will do all they can to find Suske.
Seimei tries to contact Yuma again so she goes along with his callings.
He doesn't have a lot of time left so he says Suske is in the youkai town
and says she does have the ability to save her. Seems like Hayate and Satoru
kidnapped our princess and fled into the youkai forest. He has a dream of how a man
found a baby stray cat and would've liked for it to stay with him. Hayate and Satoru
say something that Sousuke is the vessel and the cat is basically sealed inside him.
Gaku suggests Yuma to do the pact with someone since it will increase her abilities
but if its over she won't be able to see youkai anymore. Yuma doesn't hesitate
and forms a pact with Gaku because time is of the essence.
Youkai's get stronger during a full moon and weaker during a new moon
so they absolutely had to make the pact as its really dangerous to go there now.
Meanwhile Sousuke recalls what happened from his POV, when he regains some
strength he decided to runaway from their hiding spot, he decides to find a shrine
and this is where he reunites with Yuma since they were taking a break there.
Sousuke left a shikigami with a message behind, he found a way back
but he knows he has something inside him so he hesitates since he doesn't
want to endanger the people of the town so he decides to remain.
Eventually Yuma finds him due to his hesitation to go elsewhere.
Sousuke apologizes but he can't go back because of ''it'' inside him he actually knew
ever since he was little that something was off but he couldn't put his finger on it.
It started one day when he was a kid that something changed it happened to be a new moon too.
It was then he started having little episodes where he'd get sick suddenly.
Sousuke figures Seimei realized and he was trying to fight it off.
During the full moon youkai get stronger so that's when it was worse and was
eventually able to awaken. Sousuke would like for Yuma to seal him here right now.
Yuma doesn't want to do this so she rejects his idea. Yuma has enough of his shit
and grabs him despite his whining that there's no time and they have to do something.
Sousuke just wants to protect her... and Yuma wants to do the same for him.
They end up making out and the tension between them ceased. What a relief.
The CG variations in this scene were absolute perfect.
Sousuke finally tells her he likes Yuma but not as a sister*none-blood related*.
Yuma doesn't hate him so of course she reciprocated but that doesn't mean
she will go along with his master plan. Just then Sousuke pushes her away
since whatever is inside him is overwhelming him. The others appear and
they have another emergency meeting on how to deal with this.
Yuma used a barrier but it kinda seems like a lost cause then he hears
a voice that says to leave it to them. Sousuke wants it to save everyone
and they managed to get the cat out of him. Everyone would like him to stay back
but Sousuke is surprisingly fired up and ready to kick ass.
They all fight it but they're having trouble, the stupid cat ends up
attacking his own minions and Yuma can't bear to watch any longer.
Sousuke tries to summon Douma which makes the bakeneko react
since he is the stray cat and he wants to enact revenge against seimei
because Douma lost his live during the fighting which made him sad
since Douma adored him and he was no longer a stray cat.
Seeking revenge against Seimei became his goal, he became the bakeneko after drinking blood.
In the end his schemes were thwarted when he was sealed by Seimei.
One day he got nostalgic when he felt the presence of a boy that was similar to Douma
this boy was Sousuke. So he decided to dwell inside of Douma's descendant.
Due to this he was eventually able to ressurect himself after a bunch of years.
Douma tries to tell the cat he bears no resentment for Seimei.
He says its unfortunate that the cat has suffered so much for his sake
so he wishes that the bakeneko will become a normal cat again.
Douma is their ally and so they will help him but its not easy so he asks
Yuma for help to turn this youkai cat back to normal.
All's well that ends well, Hayate and Satoru are fine as well.
Before they leave Gaku wants to end the contract he had with Yuma
and Sousuke is like wait what you ended up doing that?!
In the heat of the moment she forgot to mention it but Sousuke doesn't mind it.
Gaku says his only wish is for her to continue her life as an onmyoji at the shrine.
Due to her powers having grown and she's now as strong as Seimei she'll be able to continue her
work and not lose the ability to see Youkai. Maybe his wish of coexistence will come true too.
Yume ends up having to rest and Sousuke made her some food, she's surprised since
his cooking skills can leave to be desired but he can manage something like porridge maybe.
The twins end up walking in on them creating an awkward moment...
they see them off and Sousuke still laments the fact he didn't do anything sooner
and just walked with his problems but he won't do that anymore since that's
how he got into this situation in the first place. Together they'll continue
to protect the town as onmyoji's and keep the peace between the two worlds.
ISTG Sousuke gets the best CG variations this is the second time he got a good spread.
In the epilogue the twins are having fun and Hinata enjoys her shojo manga
while Haru found a new anime to watch. For some reason Sousuke starts
turning into an actual cat, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!
The twins love him and Chiaki is like heheheh fresh blood. Sachiki is like wtf is this cat doing here.
Meanwhile Sousuke is just not having it and screeches at him. Seems like it was temporary
but he can't control when it happens, I figure its related to his emotions.
No matter Yuma still loves him no matter what. Just as he sat on her lap and got petted
I F@#king knew he was gonna change back so when it happened I laughed out loud. Peak fiction.
Bad ending: Because I was curious I did the bad ending and Sousuke ends up being
fully possessed by the bakeneko instead of being simply resurrected as a seperate entity.
Hayate and Satoru are being true cheerleaders and the CG shows his insanity well
unfortunately he ends up killing everyone so that was a pretty bad outcome.
Waaaaaaah... I really liked Sousuke's route! the whole route just had its grip on me
and I wanted to learn more about him, it did just that while wrapping up the overall story.
Although some parts may be easy to figure out I still found it to be engaging
it actually didn't even turn out like I thought it was.
The first half of the route basically develops Sousuke's character and we get to
know him better, the second half deals with the cat stuff and resolution.
I think the writers pencil may've been on fire as they wrote it.
Also i'm sorry for writing his name as Suske but he was kinda sus
in general and he wears suspenders so I just kept writing it like that.💀
I usually don't like brother routes but this time... they really nailed it.
I think i'm a Kobayashi Yuusuke fan now too because I really liked his voice for Sousuke
sadly I don't really like many characters voiced by him except... Itak from utawarerumono.
I remember not liking Hira from Dairoku and instead eyeing some sidecharacter
and that guy from Kimiyuki had posterboy curse which didn't work out. Then there was
Toby from Temirana but... that didn't do much either. Atleast it did this time.😂

My Fav route:
Sousuke > Sakichi > Gaku > Akihito > Chiaki.
I liked Akihito's route but Gaku felt much better from the start and he quickly grew on me.
Chiaki's route was a miss for me but even then there were aspects I liked.
Gaku wasn't on my radar at first but I really came to like him over the course of his route.
Sakichi was already likeable outside of his own route but his route was really hilarious
and fits the a real man's gotta be a little stupid thing. Its also unique in the way they handled things.
My Fav character:
Sakichi > SUSke > Akihito / Gaku > Chiaki.
Yea I just like stupid guys so this ranking is only fair.
Suske sorta crawled his way into my heart, I didn't dislike him
but over the course of all routes I couldn't help but become interested in him
and his own route put the nails into the coffin and well here we are!
Final Thoughs.

No fullcomp CG but I adore this image from the end of a route. |
Do you ever play an otome game and wonder: why the hell do I like this so much?!
that's my experience with this game, i'd say its no masterpiece but it was quite enjoyable.
I thought the japanese folklore stuff was presented really well. I never expected
this to be a Rom-Com either so that was a pleasant surprise.
When I really think about it I feel nothing but positive feelings from this otome game
and I found out the director apparently worked on radiant tale so maybe it made sense.
The overall story or goal was simple, it focused more on the characters
so it was never quite the same since every route dealt with it differently
which kept it fresh, I was actually tired after Chiaki's route but then I did
Gaku and it handled the story surprisingly well. I liked most LI's and by
the time of the fourth route I was completely invested in Sousuke.
I remember only spending 20 hours on Fuyuzono but this game? easily 50 hours
there was enough time to develop anything and it didn't feel rushed.
I thought the plot was better than Honey Vibes as each route felt like
they atleast closed it off properly which... that game sacrificed it for sexy times.
Mononoke Chigiri's setting was interesting but it also wasn't much more than that
so it was quite a simple fun story about a bunch of youkai in a modern setting.
I also started to remember stuff from inuyasha about the importance of moonphases
which makes youkai stronger or weaker depending on whether it a full or new moon.
The game shined with its character interactions and the heroine was very proactive.
Normally I am used to it being focused on plot but they managed to make time for it
and the scenes at times were so darn adorable. The balance of drama and romance
alongside the story was just right. I was mostly satisfied by the end of a route.
8,5/10
In terms of characters they can either be a hit or a miss and its okay if one love interest
just doesn't do it for you! there's like 5. Chiaki was the one I liked the least but even then...
I found the complexity of his character interesting and for being a fox I didn't think he was
that bad, he lived up it. When I did his bad end I understood what kind of audience it was for.💀
Though I'd choose Akihito over him in a heartbeat. This otome game was just really enjoyable
to me and my dislikes are really minor. The stuff with the animal forms was adorable.
The game was so light-hearted about it and they're in their human forms 95% of the time anyways.
The bad ends were heartbreaking and the best ends were satisfying.
I don't mind if this game doesn't get a FD although there's always things they
could explore, the best ends ended on a well enough note I didn't want anything else.
![]() |
Ah yes two gorgeous unromanceable side characters. |
let's be real it should be illegal to have such attractive side characters.
Next? time for a break from this genre! I'm still interested in 9RiP Sequel
but I don't want to play otome games contantly. It sure felt like I was back in
the PS Vita era this summer with there being two otome games back to back
and I didn't even play certain others but I don't think I can do this constantly.
12-8-25 edit: fix some typo's.
