I had always wanted to play this one! but it hadn't received any ports
so i'm really super grateful that otomate released it from PSP jail.
I played this game really slowly btw, mostly because there's no other games
coming out that interests me except Matsurika's FD. So I was in no rush.
Disclaimer: This is purely my own opinion and it could be different from yours
this is not meant to be some kind of all-truth, just an opinion that came from playing this.
If you don't like what you're reading then close the tab, move on and just idk play it yourself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pro's
- Fun cast of characters and story in general.
- Proactive and headstrong heroine.
- Switch port has QoL improvements that makes this a definitive edition.
Grey Area
- Rather short but the length may be fine as it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Con's
- Without a guide the system could be cumbersome.
- FLF system is nonsensical, I don't understand why it exists nor is it used very well.
The story is about a girl who contracts an illness from which she could die from a heart attack...
unless she steels herself by raising the limit of what her heart can handle thus making herself
stronger and preventing her own death. I honestly thought the message this game carries
is really good! it can seem kinda heavy but this is more of a romantic comedy
and most scenes are generally light-hearted. So its best to not take it too seriously.
It takes place across four/five months, its not a long game at all.
Art; well for starters you could tell it was from a different generation.
I had no problems with it though! looked good to me.
Music; was mostly fine but some bgm's could seem like elevator music when its looping.

| What a terrible time to be having Un:logical brainrot. |
so if you don't raise the right stats you can't get the best outcomes.
There's no bad ends but prematurely going over the limit won't end well.
Therefore I do recommend to use a guide if you want to play this
without much stress and just enjoy the game. Since it could be kind of
confusing to collect all of the CG's or enter routes for that matter.
I suppose you could play it without a guide if you enjoy trial and error.
I used Choro's guide and was able to get by just fine.
I still don't get what the shoot the arrow gimmick actually did..........
it was so nonsensical, other than that the actual stat raising part was good.
The switch port also includes the FD and I found there were QoL improvements
like being able to save during date selection and on the training menu.
From another review I found out that in the PSP version saving was
a bit more restricted... so the switch port is an upgrade.
This post however is only about the first game, I don't review two games at once.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her illness complicated things, in most routes I found her to be balanced
personality wise. She can seem anxious but is headstrong.
I did like how the heroine's style or appearance would change
depending on whom you go for so she would normally be cool
but that could change to beautiful, sweet or even normalπ to uh cute.
Its only in Shinnosuke's route her personality ended up being a bit too much for me and
in his case maybe it is fine but personally it goes into a territory i'd rather not go into.π
I mean I had a mental image where Shin had a dog collar and Kyoko held the line.
The game is rated ceroB which is 12+, there's nothing wild so it can
feel a bit juvenile however I still found it to be entertaining.
Its also not that difficult in terms of japanese so if you're a beginner
leaning to intermediate, this could be fun to test your japanese on.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The progression and pacing of the game makes it relatively easy to pick up and play
and events are never that long so I think this is otome is a good pick for those
who're not in the mood for VN's with longer and more engaging plot lines.
The length is just right since it doesn't manage to draw itself out more than it has to.
Doesn't take me any longer than 4/5 hours to complete a route which
includes the common/stat raising parts. The only repetitive part is the
the stat raising but seeing the events was most of the time still great.
If you try you could finish a route rather quickly. Personally this
was not a game I could play for long periods of time.

| Satsuki is a much better butler than Shin can ever hope to be. |
of the others would surprise me. Tenma was alright, I loved his supportiveness.
Kanata was cute as well, don't think anyone was unlikable but I did have
some question marks surrounding the final LI, Gai. Is he not too young?
Though Yukito was the one who stole my heart, literally.π
As for Shin... his route is good but I found the best part to be the backstory and ending.π
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall its a simple otome game, so its best not to expect too much but I found
that it can go surprisingly hard in terms of developments if it wants to.
Like it can seem kinda mild when you're stat raising but then you enter a route and wew.
Its focus is more on comedy and isn't trying to be taken serious, that's its strength.
GHP is at its best for beginners or not in the mood for story-heavy otome's
and it can be a bit disappointing to those that want more raunchy stuff.
I myself am not the target audience(ceroB) but even so I had fun here.
It made me realize just how many otome games I played recently that are
plot focused since in Glass Heart Princess is one of the few were you
actually date the LI and not just bond through plot happenings.π
Here we date because of the plot... and its better for Kyoko's heart.π
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TL;DR
Overall Glass Heart Princess is a fun otome game but don't expect too much from it.
Story is IMO decent and the characters were all great in their own ways.
I think its at its best to play in short burst or when you want to lift your mood.
There is a beautiful underlying message woven into this game and that you shouldn't
be afraid to try new things and slowly raise the limits of what is possible for you.
There aren't any real bad ends but I think you can get fail endings if you
make too many mistakes. So I recommend a guide, i'm sure
its possible to find your way but it might be cumbersome.
I'd recommend Glass Heart Princess if you're looking for something light and fun
but not if you're looking for something with a little more depth or complicated plots.
The route with the most depth was Shinnosuke, others were relatively mild in comparison.
Not sure how high a chance it has of being brought overseas but anything is possible.
For play order I decided to follow the one another blogger did
which was: Tenma / Kanata >Yukito > Shinnosuke > Gai.
Character rambles after the jump but its just commentary and a few of my fav CG's.
This game is old and summaries already exist elsewhere.
As always if you want no spoilers just stop reading here, thanks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tenma.
CV: Hatano Wataru.
game are definitely cute and mild compared to the last game I played.π
At first I wasn't very engaged with it at all... its more like I am raising this Kyoko girl
so she won't die from a heart attack and getting to know Tenma in the process.
Early on it was just chill... engaging enough to play it for an hour maybe
and then stop for the day. Tenma is a botanist and he's a teacher...
I will be honest here since lately I don't really like teacher type of LI anymore
which may have attributed to me slowing down and not binging.
However the scene when he was telling Kyoko a ghost story
it was actually kind of suspenseful + Hatano's acting was so good!!!
Hmm... I thought at one point he was some kind of demon due to his pointy ears.
Other than that Tenma was generally nice and supportive I don't hate him or anything.
It did get a bit whack toward the end... like that random dream wtf was going on?
apparently it was a reference to Hakuoki, weird flex but ok.
oh well dreams are just dreams right?! Some problems arose at the end
but everyone tried their best. I thought Kyoko was very brave
which I didn't expect since I thought she was rather anxious and shy.
Though if need be she can tell her butler to get his shit together.π
The reveal of Tenma's identity was pretty cool, I kinda figured he was odd
but he truly is something else. I don't regret playing all the way to the end!
shit got real very fast and the way the story unfolded was just chef's kiss.
like it served just fine and it was by no means bad. Though as I said before
some of the themes this route such as him being a teacher was not for me.
If you're wondering why its rated so high its because of the finale.
8.5/10
~
Kanata.
CV: Miyata Kouki.
He's definitely not normal but... what is?!π I kinda saw it coming as to what topic
would be involved this route but for some reason I still sat there patiently waiting for the reveal.
It only got more obvious as it went on which was kind of entertaining.
It was a pretty pleasant route, I liked the process a bit more than Tenma
but that may just be since Kanata is a classmate and not a teacher.
As I progressed Kanata's events I realized I kinda missed Miyata Kouki
and how much I liked Benkei from Harutoki 3. kimi wa ikenai hito desu ne~~.
I did find Kanata to be very pure and innocent, someone you'd wanna protect.
Tho you shouldn't underestimate Kanata, needless to say he's very sweet in general.
Maybe a bit shady as well because his base is beneath a manhole in the forest.π
That in itself is SUS as f#$*k.
and this time it referenced S.Y.K. Weird but okay, anyway!
The route was fairly straight-forward... if there was an issue it was was Kanata's
entire character but not in a bad way, tho at the end he was a bit of a jerk
but even then I didn't dislike him, I still found him to be cute.
It certainly was original but... not sure how I completely feel about it.
The plot developments started out light but then got serious quite fast
not sure if I could keep up. The part with the americans felt a bit convenient
but it did fit in with the themes. Overall Kanata had an alright route and it
was a crazy ride! its definitely not something you would expect.
I think this whole route is a play on the movie E.T.
The ending was very cute too, I am respectfully deceased.
This route had a missable CG scene but thanks to the guide I was
quickly able to collect it, it was hilarious scene. Absolutely worth seeing
but its kind of a bad for Himeno's heart so I can see it being necessary to avoid.
All things considered while I like Kanata more as a character I would rate
his route a little lower than Tenma but not by much.
8.3/10
~
Yukito.
CV: Suzuki Tatsuhisa.
Why would an ojou-sama like Himeno be interested in him, he wondered this himself.
Shinnosuke doesn't trust this guy and I found Yukito's route to be more engaging
right from the beginning, despite the fact there wasn't much special about Yukito,
Nothing that struck me as odd about him which is fine I actually kinda liked how normal it was.
I say but Yukito looks good even in a maid outfit... its a natural fit! despite his grumbling.π
As I progressed Yukito's events he pretty much became my best boy like there was no contest.
Well... my options were a teacher and a weird but sweet guy so not like the competition was big.
Despite Yukito being rather normal the route still managed to surprise me in small ways.
There's like so many moments I loved, like when he dried her hair, them looking
at old pictures together. Sigh I could go on but needless to say it was such a good route.
for the most NORMAL guy, their casual clothes are even grey too.π
π
That aside Yukito's personality was pretty fun too, weird thing is
he has the same sign as Ran (Virgo) but I liked Yukito much more.
Probably because he wasn't a friend already, didn't clown himself and the
process to getting to know him was natural. All I can say about this is that
it wholly depends on the story and character, its situational of whether I like a LI.
The dream at the end of december was a reference to an otome about hunters...
something I never played. Looking at older otomate titles its likely Armen Noir.
The story at the end was kinda funny, didn't even expect it so it came out
of left field. Dude thinks he's Arsene Lupin, well before his time.π
I mean this released before code:realize.
I'm also more of a crow person but raven does sound kinda... hot.
Kyoko was hilarious cuz at first she was like I feel like I know him but----
it gets even better because when she goes to see him its all so obvious.
Yukito's such a clown I can't believe it. Wait his last name is Karasuma........
The evidence doesn't lie but I will believe in Yukito. Trust.
Shinnosuke doesn't tho but he's been SUS over Yukito since the early events.
Either way despite it being rather normal it still had a fun twist to it!
Yukito's my favorite route so far, it may not be as crazy as some of the other routes
but I absolutely loved it either way. The sequence of events near the end was a masterpiece.
~
Shinnosuke.
CV: KENN.
![]() |
| Sums up this route perfectly TBH. |
Other people said Shin's route is kuso to get into and you basically have to two-time
or else its a bust which is weird since his Shinnosuke has dates available since day 1.
Due to this I think it is intended to get frustrated at Shinnosuke in general
and well he partly deserved some of that frustration especially after his route.π
I'd love to say Shin is one hell of a butler but he's a total clown! he does try
to come across as your butler, more like bare minimum requirement.π
What bothered me is unlike the other LI's we don't spend half the game
going on dates with Shin and we drop Yukito for this, I feel bad
but apparently that's the only way to get on Shin's route.
Thankfully Shin's events are really good so they made them count even so late into the game.
It did seem like I was doing half a route, so I wondered what was up with those many
Shin events early game that I didn't do due to how you have to do someone else
but they were for the final playthrough to get to the LI we totally forgot about.π
π
What really hurts me was I was still getting Yukito daily events when training
so that made me feel a bit bad, is this self-inflicted schadenfruede?
Either way I think Shin's a great character but i'm personally not very into
the master/servant trope, it can be done well but not for me.
I started becoming the most invested in Shin during ''The Shinnosuke I don't know'' date.
Shin seems like he's her capable butler and he definitely tries(and fails)
but we rarely see the real him, only briefly during the festival.
I remember Shin saying something like in some ways you can only rely on yourself.....
with people like him around yea surely. I've found Satsuki to be more reliable than him.π
Thing is Shin isn't a complete hetare, it switches on if he gets yelled at especially the heroine.
Imagine someone messing up, you get mad and they become helpless child....
I get its supposed to be hilarious but... idk why I actually found it kinda sad.
Shinnosuke is a hot mess of a character and maybe that's why he's so likable.
The christmas date sure was something, not sure how I feel about him being santa cowboy.π
It was still cozy though... cozy enough for him to doze off. This hetare butler..........π
The dream at the end of december was a reference to beastmaster and prince...
Shin looked so natural in the costume I can't hate it.π
π
π
π
Thankfully their relationship developed somewhat maturely but there's
just moments here or there that makes me write it off like a comedic trainwreck.
Not sure if I liked or hated it but it could have been worse?
There's a certain sweetness to Shinnosuke and the story this route was certainly
interesting and surprising but... I wasn't quite vibing with it.
I was like what?! anyway they sure decided to have a plot for once.
Compared to most other routes Shinnosuke has the most severe developments
one could even think he is being OOC but some signs were already there.
Signs I couldn't take seriously due to the nature of the game.
I like how these problems don't matter in the previous four routes.π
Basically this route was ruined by Kuroe who was butthurt Kyoko's mom
married her dad so now he went after the daughter, big yikes ewewewew.
Can we just go back to it being a romcom, I pray to Sunday.π
Ofc Shinnosuke comes around because fuck this plot. The how and why
Shinnosuke became Kyoko's butler was well written though so it wasn't all bad.π
The backstory and ending were the best parts???
Not sure how I feel about Kyoko yelling at Shin in the end... she really
showing her oujo-sama energy and poor Shin can't match it(or does he?).
Needless to say the ending was really cute but wew lad what a plot.
The epilogue was a much needed salve for all the whack plot that just had transpired?!
and will commend them for trying, though the plot was a bit tiring this time
not to mention or more like wait this can have a serious story? it can.
It also felt like it was longer than any other route, or maybe that's my imagination.
Sadly some of the stuff about Kuroe was gross so that lowered my enjoyment
but other than that i'd still say it was very good.
8/10.
~
Gai.
CV:Matsuoka Yoshitsugu.
![]() |
| Gai is 404 not found so have a CG of Shinnosuke instead. |
Who is this aimed at? shotacons maybe?! either way not me. Probably one of
the rare times I was like well I would be fine if he was a side character.π
Thankfully the route is very short but to get to it we don't actually spend much time
with Gai since he appears really late into the game. The guide had me select Kanata
and do all of Shinnosuke's early dates till Gai showed up. The ones I didn't do
because of Shin's route having weird conditions requiring you to focus on someone else.
In that respect Gai's route isn't much different... but it made me miss the process of
Tenma,Kanata and Yukito's route. Due Gai's age it may've been a blessing in disguise.
Turns out its because their parents of Kyoko and Gai made some sort of joke of them getting
married despite their kids having a massive age difference. Gai took it seriously... and here we are.
Shinnosuke ends up taking him under his wing after Gai saw his awesomeness in action
and decided he wanted to be just as cool, which was cute I guess? Gai has two endings:
In the happy end Gai decides he wants to be a man worthy of Kyoko and asks her to wait for him.
Maybe right now its not yet the time... but in the future? maybe.
there were Kyoko and Gai. He ended up very scared but Kyoko reassured him.
Turns out Shinnosuke was behind it. Its for the greater good. Kyoko plays along.
Gai ends up taking them out with a stun gun.... and has them running & screaming.
Even if it was all a ruse it showed Gai's potential a little bit so this ending wasn't bad.
Gai did end up angry for being played like that... and ends up hating them all.
Well that was an absolute miss... *Miyabi voice*.
Fast forward to the future... Kyoko succeeds in life
and Gai came back all grown up! she didn't recognize him.π
Turns out he's been plotting revenge these past few years, not even Kuroe
stood a chance and now she is next. Eh... when I think about it this is kinda hilarious
but overall I think this route is really rushed so i'm not really feeling the romance here.
---
While playing the game, Gai was actually not on my mind at all. His appearances are like
less than 2%, even Shinnosuke had more presence outside of his own route.πππ
Gai's the forgotten character you likely won't even think about till someone mentions
he has a route or you're wondering how to get the last remaining CG's in the gallery.
Ending 1 follows the maybe in a few years trope, it can be kinda bittersweetand Gai's effort is admirable... but that's about it. There's not much substance to this
so I can't really get invested into Gai's character, i'm sorry. Maybe in the FD?!
Ending 2 is meant to be hilarious but it makes me go nope at the same time.
I'd probably be confused as hell if it was me, Kyoko only knew Gai for like a month
so I would just forget it happened. Gai didn't however... π
Eight years was it not? damn. Kyoko and Shin reaping what they sowed
but in the end Gai became much stronger than he was so maybe its not bad?
Gai does look kinda hot when he grew up... so that makes him both cute and cool.
I can't rate this route the same way as the others because its...
extra content and simply doesn't compare to what a full route is.
~
Favorite route:
Yukito > Tenma / Kanata > Shinnosuke > Gai.
No route is bad, this is just preference. I like how I never rated
any of the routes lower than an 8/10 so that's gotta say something.
I rank Gai last here because he's got not much substance.
Route ranking in terms of how ridiculous it gets:
Shinnosuke > Tenma & Kanata > Yukito > Gai.
Favorite character:
Yukito > Shinnosuke > Kanata > Tenma/Gai.
Again this is preference, not very into teachers so Tenma's last.
Can you like characters even if you don't vibe with the route
or like routes more than the character? absolutely YES.
Gai doesn't rank very high for me, so I put him together with Tenma
but that's mostly because of Gai's determination is admirable.
Final thoughts.
but none of it was particularly deep or anything. So its perfect if you want
a character focused otome game that doesn't have a drawn out plot.
I don't think there was a canon route either and the order shouldn't matter too much
but if you play in the recommended order you'll go from mild to more intense plots.
Every route was unique in the way it dealt with Kyoko's problem
but it can be a bit repetitive to replay due the simulation part of the game.
The game also jokingly referenced older otomate works as well as a certain movie IYKYK.
I also liked that in certain backgrounds of the game there would be sprites of other
otomate characters, so it was like wait is that the heroine of amnesia and Toma!?
What do I dislike about Glass Heart Princess? the process of getting
to Shinnosuke or Gai's route perhaps? but that's about it.
Its a fine otome game, maybe its not perfect but it doesn't need to be.
9/10
What's next? lately I am not really in the mood for RPG's anymore
so I will probably dive into GHP Platinum. The new otomate games
Kimi Ni Madoi and Sullyland grabbed my interest a little
and it has the director of code:rea on it so I trust his cooking.
However Kimi Ni Madoi strikes me as Olympia Soiree but more extreme
I mean what? mate or die, guess I will stare at my non-blood related
onii-chan (beta) and hope he notices. He could be the next Masato.π
